What it is

The real rail infrastructure, on a map you already know

Railmap puts the OpenRailwayMap railway dataset on top of Google Maps. Switch between five rail layers (standard track layout, maximum speed, signals, electrification and gauge) over a normal, satellite or terrain base map.

Search for any place, save the spots you want to come back to, and read the built-in legend when you meet a symbol you don't recognise.

It's for railway enthusiasts, rail professionals, model railway builders, and anyone curious about the tracks they travel on.

Everything on the line

Five railway layers

Standard track layout, Max. Speed, Signals, Electrification and Gauge. Switch instantly from the layers button.

Three base maps

Default, Satellite and Terrain, so you can see the tracks in context or against real aerial imagery.

Place search

Search any city, station or address and jump straight there.

Saved places

Bookmark interesting junctions, stations or stretches of line with your own name and notes. Stored on your device.

Built-in legend

The official OpenRailwayMap legend for whichever layer you're viewing, so colours and symbols always make sense.

Fast tile loading

Tiles are served through a CDN, so the map stays quick without hammering the OpenRailwayMap servers.

Behind the app

Railmap is a small side project: OpenRailwayMap tiles served through a CDN so they load quickly, a search API, a few convenience features, wrapped in an Android app.

That hosting costs real money, which is why the app carries ads. If you'd rather not see them, a one-off in-app purchase removes them and supports the work directly.

The app shows ads through Google AdMob and asks for advertising consent on first launch. It uses anonymous sign-in, with no account, no email address and no name, and saved places are stored only on your device. Details in the privacy policy.
